He's official!!!

The wonderful (sarcasm injected) Social Security Agency has FINALLY issued Patrick a SSN. This has been a LONG drawn out process. You see we applied in person (on our second visit to the local office) on Dec. 22, 2006. Well after waiting over a month for a card, I called to find out what the hold up was being that they told us that it would only take 2 weeks. Well apparently the court certified document stating that Patrick was in fact born on April 27th in UT was not enough, nor was the official birth certificate stating such including that we were his parents....no, they had to verify with UT that he was infact a valid person! LOL! Well apparently our local SS office doesn't deal with UT a whole lot. So when they contacted UT for verification, they didn't send a copy of the requestors photo ID...which is required by UT. So after a few weeks, many phone calls to our local office, our local congressman's office (which were very helpful), and getting lucky by finding a friend of a friend who worked at the local SS office, we were able to find out the status - "We are waiting on UT". So we located the lovely lady in UT who handles such requests and she explained the hold up. So we contacted our SS office and explained what they needed to do and who to call in UT. Well two weeks later a letter arrives stating Patrick's SSN and that his card was on his way!

You would think that is the end of the story, but no!

Once I happily received his SSN, I entered it into Turbo Tax so that we could file for our refund (thank you Congress and the Senate for passing the adoption credit! We love you!). Well today I get an email saying that the Federal Govt. rejected our e-filed return because .... are you sitting down for this.....the name, birthdate, and SSN for our dependent (Patrick) did not match their records!!!!!!! I double checked everything...which is correct....so now as I sit writing this post, I am on hold with the SS office to see if they entered his info (name or DOB) incorrectly!

Got to love the red tape!

Love ya
LeAnna, Matthew, and Patrick

P.S. Apparently it takes 10 days for the IRS to update their records .... so the lovely lady who verified all of Patrick's info is correct in their system said to TRY AGAIN on March 12th! :-)
