....THE FLU! So after having a great time at the last soccer game and enjoying the beautiful weather we were having that weekend, Patrick woke up that Sunday with a temperature. But the first thing that I noticed that was wrong is that he would not take one sip of his milk or juice - first red flag. Second one was that he was burning up! Now this was not the best case scenario to begin with, but to make matters worse was that we had friends coming to town to stay with us while their oldest son received some medical treatment here in Jackson. In addition to their 2 yr old they also have a 9+ week old - which is not good for a household with a sick child. My first thought was - strep throat. It is going around along with the flu. Since he wouldn't eat or drink anything and had a fever, I decided off to after hours we go. Maybe it would be strep, we would get our penicillin shot and be on our merry way. Not so. They tested him for strep (which was negative). Dr. Craig said his throat was red, but didn't see or hear anything else. He explained it may be too early for it to show up on the strep test, so give it till Tuesday and if it wasn't better to call him. Fast forward to Monday morning...Patrick awakes with a 102.7 fever and can't keep his Tylenol or Motrin down. Matthew was planning on staying home with him, but after two throwing up episodes asked me to stay home as well. I agreed and we headed to see Dr. Craig again. This time we tested for strep and the flu. Strep Negative Flu Positive. We were lucky in that we caught it early enough for us all to be on Tamiflu (we were lucky that the strand he had was not the one that is resistant). We fought fever Sunday-Tuesday night....he is feeling better. He hasn't gotten his appetite for food or drink back, but is full force Patrick in all other aspects. He did have to stay home all last week and Matthew was a great husband and father and took care of him. I think by the end of this weekend we were all having cabin fever. Today the rain appears to have finally moved on, the sun is trying to come out, and we are looking forward to some warmer temperatures.
Oh, and Saturday, Patrick's girlfriend Mary Everett came over to 'take care' of him while the mom's went and ordered their cake for their joint birthday party in April. She even brought him some candy hearts which she quickly corrected me stating it was his 'medicine'! LOL. They were so sweet as they sat and watched some classic Tom & Jerry cartoons - therefore taking it easy on Matthew. Thank you ME for coming over to check on your man!
As for our dear friends who drove 6+ hours to see the great doctors at Blair E. Batson hospital - we were unable to hang out and let the kids get to know each other. It was really sad because I was the only soul they knew here in town and we were looking forward to seeing each other. Matthew and I were looking forward to lending a helping hand. I think they received more information of what it isn't, but not a whole lot about what it is that is wrong with their oldest. We are still waiting for some blood work to come back that we are all hoping will shed some light.....in the meantime we will try to meet up again next time we visit our family in Frisco, TX.
I can't wait till tomorrow - as it will be Patrick's National Holiday - Happy St. Me Day!
Thanks for checking in!

Sorry to hear that Patrick had the flu and took him out of commission for a while - glad all is better now. Sounds like he had a couple of exceptional nurses!!
