Happy Birthday William Thomas!

William decided he DID NOT want his birthday in December. He DID NOT want his birthday so close to Christmas. In fact, he preferred it to be closer to Thanksgiving...a holiday with no gifts associated. So William got what he wanted, and I am sure it won't be the first time!

Saturday morning started out like any other Saturday morning. We all got up around 8 or so. Matthew fixed his coffee and headed to take a shower. I fixed Patrick his blueberry waffles and myself some breakfast. Not long after eating I became a little queasy and had some pains right below my rib cage. Now the pains weren't terrible and I had become quite used to them from William's precious hiney being stuck to my ribs. But this seemed to be different. I told Matt I wasn't feeling well and was going to take a shower to see if that helped things. It didn't. I climbed into bed and Matt and Patrick went about their morning checking on me periodically. Around 11 I said that enough was enough and it was time to get up and dressed. So I made a phone call to a friend to ask her if it was possible to have contractions so high up and not feel them in my back. She said yes, but that he was probably just moving into position as I felt he was still horizontal. She told me to take two tylenol, prop my feet up, and if I didn't feel better in a hour to call the doctor. Well things didn't get better so I called the doctor. Since we live only 10 minutes away, the nurse on call said to go to the hospital and let's rule out labor. So off we went. Again I am thinking, "oh he is just moving into position, this is all this is." Boy was I wrong.

We arrive and they hook me up to the monitors. Let's just say between 1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. things progressed from 0 cm dilated to a solid 3 cm dilated and contractions every 3 minutes to contractions every 2-3 minutes. My doctor came on up to the hospital and we had a chat on whether I wanted to deliver the old fashion way or c-section. Because of my CF and the stress on my lungs that a long labor could bring, we opted for a C-section. Now here is where the problem started - 1. Matthew had no camera whatsoever except his iPhone. 2. The c-section would take place in less than an hour - all family was over 2.5 hrs away. 3. Patrick was at a neighbor's house playing with the intent we would be back shortly. So I asked the doctor if Matt could have time to at least go home and get our good camera and for me to make some phone calls to get family on their way here and plans for Patrick. She said we had about 45 minutes. So Matthew raced home, grabbed the camera, and I began dialing away. Fast forward 45 minutes....

...I am prepped and ready to go. Spinal was a breeze (one of my biggest fears). Matthew walked in dressed in scrubs just in time to snap a photo of me ready to go and check his settings. He sits down next to my head, asks how I am doing and if I was OK. I said Yes. Then William's first cry. Yes folks they really do mean it only takes a few minutes. Matthew and I both looked at each other and smiled....we couldn't believe he was finally here and so quick!

I'm crying here! Something about reading someone else's birth story with a little boy so close to Jonah's age just tugged at my heart. I have a feeling we are going to be experiencing lots of the same things at the same time with these 4 little boys so close in age!
