First Day of School

Well I hear that I did better than mom and dad did apparently.
Here is a recap of my FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!

Everyone started out the day great. We dropped Matthew's car along the way and he joined Patrick and I in the van. We arrived early (7:15) and were the first in line for PreK3 dropoff. At 7:30 a.m. Mrs. Jamie opened up the van door and got Patrick out. He was ready to go. She quickly reminded him that he had to get his book bag and lunchbox. She grabbed those out of the van and handed them to him. She was so patient with the first day parents....she even reminded him to turn around so we could get his picture before going in. Now Matthew and I were all prepared. He had our big digital camera ready to go and I was in charge of filming the drop off on our camcorder. Well let's just say in the midst of it all I did not hit 'record' like I thought I did, but Matthew got plenty of pictures....and said he would tape drop off tomorrow morning for me! (Isn't he the best!)
Now we were not used to waking up and having to prepare breakfast for our little man. This was something new to add to the morning routine. I fixed him cheesy scrambled eggs and toast with jelly. He ate the toast and a bite or two of eggs...but he was mostly excited about his new school Now the night before we fixed his lunch. He will eat the hot meals that are served, but the first week the PreK kids aren't in the lunch system yet so we were asked to bring lunches. This made me not so happy as my kid is not the sandwich type (yes he is a food snob and prefers good ol' homecooking!)....so I figured if he helped me prepare it that he might enjoy it. I even went and purchased round biscuit cutters to make it more fun. But as you can see....the excitement of the big day won over hands down.....
...so the question I got most today was - Did you cry? I most certainly did! I was smart and did not put eye makeup on till I got to work, but the tears streamed down my eyes and all Matthew and I could say on the way to get his car - "I can't believe he is so grown up!"

I was a basket case all day and was dying to know how he was doing. As soon as quitting time care around I was out the door. As I arrived with two other kids parents who were just as anxious as I was, my fears were put aside. I went to the play ground to see what was going on as the afternoon teacher kept calling him but he wouldn't come to the door. I stepped outside and saw him and said "Patrick McKenzie!" and waved.....and even though he was super excited to see me...he was more determined to drive his car over to me. He was having such a good time he really was in no rush to go home! I found the following attached to his bag this afternoon...

Oh, and the sandwich verdict. He ate two or three bites, his small bag of French Onion Sunchips, his Kashi soft cereal bar, and drank all of his V8 Fusion Blueberry Pomegranate juice...he finished the sandwich on the way home....boy had worked up an appetite. So he will eat sandwiches....nice to know.

So the uniform is ready to go for tomorrow...and Matthew is flying solo on drop off. I will let you know how everyone does tomorrow!

HE IS SO CUTE!! I'm glad it went well. Have you ever tried cookie cutters for his sandwiches? we have some animal/insect cookie cutters the girls LOVE. the ladybug is a favorite. so sometimes they get ladybug sandwiches....I think when they're hungry enough, they'll eat anything! congrats on a great day!

I am so glad to hear that the first day of school went so well for Patrick and that mom and dad made it through the day too!
I just love all the pictures!! But I agree, he is just growing up too fast!
Sounds like Patrick is enjoying a delicious and healthy lunch! FYI -the Kroger in our area has little sandwhich cutters in the shape of dinosaurs which look really fun...
