There is a reason for child door locks...

...especially on cars!

You see Matthew drives my four door Camry that I purchased my senior year in college - I remember the day quite well...as it was not only the first time I purchased a vehicle but also the birthday of my best bud Bridget ....I digress....so on October 26, 1999, I became the proud owner of a 2000 Camry. And yes though it is approaching it's 10th birthday, even then they had child locks. You know where you can open the door, flip a little piece of metal that prevents anyone from opening the door from the inside. Well Matthew thought it would be a great idea to make sure that we did just that once Patrick started riding face forward in a carseat as in his car the carseat sits next to the rear passenger door.

Fast forward to our staycation that took place over the 4th of July weekend. That weekend we took the carseat out of Matthew's car and gave it to my sister to use while Patrick was visiting with them. Matthew and I thought since we were childless that we would forgo the MiniVan and drive around in the sedan. That was great except for when my brother-in-law joined us on a few errands. That placed me in the back seat, which meant everytime we stopped (which was often) I would have to wait on someone to remember to open my door. This was a HUGE pain. So on one of our stops I flipped the switch....which apparently never got switched back....

...because on the way home from school on Wednesday, Matthew hears this wind noise only to discover that Patrick had opened the door while they were driving down the road. Yes folks...there is a reason that there are child locks on vehicles and for keeping your child buckled at all times!

Needless to say Matthew quickly pulled over, flipped the switch, and closed the door.

I tell you what...nothing surprises me with this kid anymore!
