I am tender hearted. Always have been. I can't watch violent movies or horror movies because of this. So watching the devastation that has taken place in Haiti has rocked me to my core. All those that have lost their lives, the children who are now orphans, the orphans who have adoptive families waiting for them here. It is all too much to comprehend. As an adoptive parent, I can't begin to fathom how all of the families here in the U.S. who have already been matched with their son or daughter, have visited them, and are now searching to find out if they are alive and O.K. are feeling. Oh how my heart breaks.
I can't imagine if someone had sent me a picture of Patrick, then we flew out to see him, and then had to leave him in such conditions to only have to wait to return to get him and bring him home. Now add to the fact that I couldn't even find out if he is O.K. or if he survived a 7.0 earthquake and then have my hands tied by redtape to get him out of those now worse conditions and bring him home where he belongs safe and sound. Oh how my heart truly breaks. I have seen the stories on t.v., read the countless blogs, and new articles of families who are living that nightmare right now! I saw the following link posted on facebook by another adoptive mother that is an online petition to help bring those children who have already been matched with families here in the U.S. home. Please take a few minutes and sign this petition and help someone bring their children home. Here is a story of mom who is trying desperately to bring her two children home...they were scheduled for visas next week, but I am sure that is now been delayed.
Also, I know that there are a lot of ways to donate towards relief efforts. I wanted to bring your attention to one Christian organization that is also helping out with the relief efforts. They state for a donation of $35 one could provide emergency supplies, food, and clean water for a family for one week. That is the cost of one meal eating out this weekend. Giving up that one meal could help a family for a week. Just something to ponder.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Haiti, the children of Haiti, those who are helping with rescue and relief efforts, and with the adoptive parents waiting to hear about their children.
