Square Donuts...without holes

This morning was our typical Saturday morning.

Patrick woke early. We put him in bed and tried to entertain him while trying to get some extra zzz's. At approximately 7:30 a.m. both of our phones beeped indicating a text message. As I was in no mood to move I asked Matt who his message was from. It was from my dear friend Emily wanting to know if we would like to join them for beignets this morning at their house. Now I LOVE ME SOME BEIGNETS! I mean what girl raised in Southern Louisiana doesn't LOVE beignets...I prefer them over donuts any day...call me crazy...but blame it on my roots. I digress...so I told Matt to reply asking when. She immediately said - Now. So we jumped up and got appropriately dressed, made a quick trip to McDonalds' for some iced mochas...I mean you can't eat a beignet without coffee - that would be a disgrace. We asked Patrick if he was ready to go eat some beignets and he looked at me funny. That is when I realized he had not had them before. He said "what is that?" I quickly replied - "a square do-nut without a hole". He quickly replied..."yes I want square donuts."

We arrived about an hour after our message beckoning us to come over had arrived. We even took some home for a tasty treat later.

Patrick did like the powder sugar, as he licked the first one. He did eat one, but I think this boy lives way too North to appreciate a square do-nut. Guess we will have to stick to the circle ones with holes in the middle from now on.
