...Matthew and I were riding a plane out to Salt Lake City to meet our child that was truly Heaven sent. I remember it like yesterday receiving a call around 1:00 p.m. that we needed to catch the next flight out (which wasn't till 5:00 p.m. CST). I remember landing in Houston and turning my cell phone on to see that I had a voicemail and hearing the news that our son had been born - 7 lbs 13 ozs. 21 1/2 inches long abgar of 8/9. I couldn't wait to catch the next flight to Salt Lake. I remember landing in Salt Lake City and arriving at the rental car office asking for directions to Salt Lake Regional and the guy saying he would give us a car with GPS. I remember programming the GPS for the quickest route. I remember arriving at the hospital and having to enter through the ER because it was after mid-night. I remember arriving at the nurses station and asking which room we needed to go to. I remember holding Matthew's hand as we said a silent prayer that neither one of us said anything wrong before stepping in to the hospital room where I saw Patrick's birthmother for the first time and we cried together and hugged for the longest time. I remember stepping back and wiping the tears away as she said "Let me call the nursery so you can meet your son." I remember them wheeling him in and just staring in awe as Matthew and I met him for the first time. I remember it all like it was yesterday. These memories are the ones I will cherish forever. I truly believe that Patrick was chosen for Matthew and I. How else do you explain the following: 1) Matthew and I chose to start the process to adopt around the time Patrick was concieved - eight and half months later he was born. We had our own type of pregnancy! 2) He has my eye shape and color 3) He looks like Matthew and I. 4) His birthmother looks like she could be my biological sister! I am telling you he was truly Heaven sent!Yes, three years ago today, we took our first family portrait....and it is the one picture I honestly treasure more than any....for three years ago the Lord made us a family.
Hard to believe it has been three years....
